With 1 in 2 Canadians diagnosed, it is hard to not find a family touched by cancer. We all know and love people who lost their lives to cancer, or who are courageously facing it today. Doves of Hope is a campaign helping to change the lives of cancer patients and bring hope to their families.

Every gift, every dove is supporting research breakthrough and innovative patient care at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, the only Canadian research and comprehensive treatment centre devoted exclusively to cancer.

Both at the Cancer Centre and here online, doves fly in a display of hope and strength that we can Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime.

Past Dove Stories

Ashley

While beginning her last year of university, with exciting plans for the future, Ashley May Miklas’ life took an unexpected turn. At 21 years old, she was diagnosed with a rare and incurable sarcoma. Ashley confronted her diagnosis with courage and grace, remaining strong with the support of her mother Holly, father Paul, and two older brothers, Adam and Matthew. Despite how hard Ashley fought for 10 long and painful months, she passed away on September 18th, 2018.

The dove on our tree will be for Erik. Below it will be the tree skirt we made as a family with our hand prints. When I see it, it will remind me of all the precious moments we spent together as a couple for over 10 years — and as a family for only 2 years — all the memories of Erik I’ll cherish forever … we simply would not have those memories if it weren’t for donors making a difference for family like ours.

Aaron

When Aaron and I opened our own Doves of Hope letter. He said, “Cool! An ornament for our tree!” And we hung that dove in honour of Rachel, his sister, whose life was also cut tragically short by cancer. We didn’t know then that Aaron only had a few more months to live. We didn’t know then that this year, we’d hang our dove for him. Our dove will be dedicated to Aaron. It’s one of so many ways we’re keeping him present and alive in our home and our hearts.

Every dove tells a story — perhaps it might be someone you’ve lost, a friend or family member who’s been diagnosed with cancer, or even a doctor, nurse, or hospital staff member.
Your donation tells families they are not alone.
